What’s Your Favorite Color?

When asked with this run-of-the-mill question, what would you answer?

As for me, it would be gray. I guess it’s gray. Just recently, I have been studying the psychology of colors and how each color affect our mental and physiological nature. Here’s what I learned along the track.

Gray

Gray is the color of intellect, knowledge, and wisdom. It is perceived as long-lasting, classic, and often as sleek or refined. It is a color that is dignified, conservative, and carries authority. Gray is controlled and inconspicuous and is considered a color of compromise, perhaps because it sits between the extremes of black and white. Gray is a perfect neutral, which is why designers often use it as a background color.

Gray is, in essence, timeless. It’s like a feature story to a news story. It is unstructured yet sleek and streamlined. It symbolizes an elegant and futuristic texture. Sometimes, people use the term “grey” instead of “gray”–but yeah, it’s not a big of a deal. Grey is just the Brit’s way of saying, “I am happy and grey.” Of course, I’m kidding. It’s actually similar to saying “colour, theatre, metre, centre, honour, and saviour”.

Heads-up: This blog is not about embracing or choosing which is the best among the color palette. Here’s the point of the matter:

In life, there are no gray areas.

Life is not gray. It shouldn’t be gray. Sometimes we ditch the legalistic standpoint of life that we tend to dig into our senses in treading towards the gray area. I beg to differ when Smallville’s Jonathan Kent told Superman these few lines:

In the world things aren’t always black and white. Sometimes you have to wander out into the gray areas and do what you think is right.

You see. It’s either white or black. Life or death. So as you live your life today, which path are you pacing your way into? Choose life.
